Choosing COMMUNITY Over Isolation

What carried revival in the Book of Acts was an intentional connection. It says about the first New Testament Revival Movement found in Acts 2:46 that "every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts,"

The point here is that the early Ekklesia was intentional in meeting together. They set aside time to connect relationally and spiritually. Did it take effort? Yes. Did it take time? Yes. Was it at times, inconvenient? I would imagine. But the connection with others of like faith was the lifeline for the early church, and so too, it is with us.

What We Are Currently Facing

What we are currently facing is a push into isolation. I'm not here to debate the issue, but nonetheless, we are ordered to be in our homes and to wear masks when we take walks, or when we need to make a run to the grocery store.

Now more than ever, we need each other, but under these current conditions, this is difficult. We have to innovate and use what is currently available to us to stay encouraged and connected.

Love doesn't grow in isolation. Love needs an object. Love needs relationship. Isolation will cripple us and defeat us. Don't choose it. Choose instead to be in community. Community must be intentional, especially now.

Choosing Others and Encouraging Them in this Season

I want to challenge all of us to think differently in light of the season we are in. How can we gather when church buildings are closed? How can we still connect though we cannot see one another? I believe Hebrews 10:25 is applicable in our current season if we are a little creative and utilize the tools, via technology, that God has given us.

This is not the time to pull away and neglect meeting together, as some have formed the habit of doing, because we need each other! In fact, we should come together even more frequently, eager to encourage and urge each other onward as we anticipate that day dawning.

Hebrews 10:25

So heed the warnings and appeal in this verse. I get it; nothing will ever replace being physically connected. The very foundation of life and society is based on this. But through technology, we CAN come together at any time to "encourage and urge each other onward."

With Video Conferencing like Zoom, you can have up to 100 people on a video call. We have Instagram, Facebook, Facetime (iPhone), and many other ways to share a video connection and see each other's faces, talk, encourage each other, and pray. You can utilize group texts and phone calls.

Choose Community

So choose community, not isolation. Be intentional about "encouraging an urging each other onwards." Maybe send one text a day. Or simply make a call. Or put an encouraging scripture verse up on IG or Facebook. People need to hear from you.
